Following the success of the Club's Spring
Series 707 campaign we have again
chartered "Cezanne", this time
for the Hamble Winter series. We will run
training sessions on the Saturdays and
race on the Sundays of the following
weekends -
Nikki Oxford has kindly agreed to be the
"Crew Boss" and now needs to
know who would like to either train or
race on the 707. Could I therefore ask you
to let Nikki know as soon as possible if
you are interested and if so your likely
availability (if you can be definite as to
when you can and can't sail it would be a
great help). Nikki's contact details are
as follows - nikki_oxford@hotmail.com
We will then organise the crew rota so
that everyone who wants to sail can get a
fair share of opportunity to do so whilst
ensuring we have sufficient experience
aboard to train and race. When you respond
to Nikki, please could you provide a brief
note as to your keel boat or dinghy racing
experience and in particular If you are an
experienced keel boat race helm or could
lead any of the training days (or know
anyone we could enrol) - please could you
let Nikki know.
The cost per person per day will be £30.
However, if we can find a professional
coach for any of the training days, the
crew benefiting from this tuition may be
asked to make a further contribution.
For those who haven't sailed a 707 before
it is an exciting, 23 ft, five man sports
boat - full details, tips and hints etc
can be found at www.hunter707.0rg.uk
The club's annual dinner dance will take place this year on Thursday, 2 November at the Honourable Artillery Company near Finsbury Square.
Members can buy tickets for £65 ,
to include champagne reception, wine with
the meal and an after dinner drink.
The price for non members and guests is
£85 . Anyone interested in organising a table or coming along as individuals to this prestigious event should contact Liz Lotz
as soon as possible. You can book
on-line by clicking
here. There are now only 25 places
left!
As a new event this year Paul May and
Michael Hook are arranging to take Lutine
for a week long passage out to the Western
Approaches (to the UK not just the
Solent!) and hopefully back again.
The intent is to remain at sea for
600 miles with a view to it being an ocean
passage. It will also be an
opportunity to experience the winter sea and
weather.
There
are now only 3 spaces left please see Club
events for more details.
Note
all participants taking part in this event do
so at their own risk.
Details
are being finalised for the Fastnet 2007
campaign. If you are interested in
participating please contact Hookie.
The
Finn
Trophy is the annual team race between
Lloyd's Yacht Club, The Baltic Exchange and
the Stock Exchange. It forms part of
the Island Sailing Club's Nab Tower race and
was held on 23 September.
The
winner this year were The Baltic
Exchange. The fastest LLYC was Don
Moreton's Babylon. A wonderful dinner
was organised by the Stock Exchange.
In all there were 5 boats from LLYC taking
part, in finishing order with elapsed time
these were:
Babylon,
5:11:10
Lutine, 5:05:34
Domaine, 6:06:15
Big Doris, 6:00:31
Pollione,
7:39:00.

Tom
Milligan (the father of club skipper Kevin
Milligan) owns a boat called Molly'O.
He is presently taking her to the Canaries
for the winter season and will be returning
next April, Tom Milligan will be running RYA
courses and holiday cruises. Any
member of the club is invited to take berths
on the boat over the period it is in the
Canaries. The fees are £690 per week
per person for a maximum of six
people. This includes all expenses
except evening meals if in a marina (as most
want to dine ashore). You will have to
provide your own flights, transfers and
insurance.
In the first instance contact Lawrence
Nicholls or e-mail Tom on mollyocharter@hotmail.com
LLYC members Marcelle
von Wendland and Amanda Mochrie came 11 out
of 16 in the Volvo City Championships on 9
and 10 September and just missed prize for first boat without
professional skipper and crew by 2 places i.e. were the third amateur
boat. They were competing against
sailors from Volvo and the likes of Shirley
Robertson with teams entered by the big investment banks such as the
winners Barclays Capital. The racing was in
Beneteau 40.7's and they were only 7 up and it was
blowing 20/25 knots in the Solent with massive tide.

This picture is of Amanda on the Finsoft
boat. She took a battering trying to do
both bow and mast. There are plenty more
photos and further information on the
City Championship website. www.citychampionships.com
Since
the last e-newsletter and in
the space of 5 days there have been a number of
challenges for the Nab Tower time. This
now stands at 1hr 44m 38s and the record is
held by a team from Amlin. This beats
the time of 1 hr 49m put up by a club crew
skippered by Michael Hook. A team from
ACE also had a go, but fell short of the
Amlin time.
The fastest time
for the Cross Channel has now fallen to 9hrs
50mins with a crew from Wildnet now holding
this years record. This is down from the 11hrs
49 mins, set by a team lead by John Macaulay
from Haven Knox Johnson. Haven are having
another try to reclaim the trophy next
week and a team from AWAC are having a going
at the Round the Isle of Wight time.
There
is still time before the Dinner Dance on
2 November to challenge all these times!
The
committee are reviewing whether the
tradition that a prize be given for the best
kept log will be given this year. If
you think you are a contender please let
Lawrence Nicholls know.
If there is anything that you wish to report to other members of the club please let the editor, Lawrence Nicholls, know.
