In addition to the current Club Challenges of the Nab Tower and Round the Island, there is a new Trophy challenge for 2009.
This is the ‘Lutine Classic’ challenge – so named, tongue in cheek – as it’s the newest challenge!
The course is a Solent based course that can be raced against clock by
club members on club weekends and corporate charters during the week
alike. The course will take approximately 3 hours, and is
therefore a perfect for a shorter challenge.
The course is as follows:

The only rules – other than completing the course in the correct
direction and rounding all marks correctly, is that each leg should
allow for a different helmsman – once the mark is rounded and the
next is in sight, hand over and allow someone else to take charge!
This course is approximately 16 nautical miles, and at the end of the
2008 season, was tested with two times set – a club weekend set
the inaugural time of 3:30 exactly (!) and was followed the next
weekend with Fastnet 2009 hopefuls with a time of 2:58:55. The
Fastnet hopefuls not only changed helm, but all positions, including
handing over navigation each time, which was fun!
Times are re-set each year, so like our other challenges, the
silverware that is to be presented at the Annual Dinner, is up for
grabs every year! So why not find some fellow club members, or
get a Company team out during the week – have a great time, see
the Solent and experience some round the can racing – without
other boats getting in your way!!!
